OWH Sketch – 207

This weeks sketch is great for using up those pieces of designer series paper that stand pretty much on their own.  The addition of a little accent, and possibly embossing makes them just perfect.

The recipe for this card appears below.

Midweek Throwdown – Punch Art Smurf

Just a quickie this morning, as I have to take my grandson to see the new Smurf movie.  Personally I am not a fan, but decided to use this opportunity to put something “current” for kids in this week’s challenge.

The MWT challenge for this week was to use punches and dies.  I found a Smurf online created about a year ago by Stacey Lisk, a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator on the West Coast Stamper’s site (….when credit is due…).  I looked up pictures of Papa Smurf, and tweaked mine a little, for the signature “mouth in the beard” look.  Both cards are shown.  If you want the recipe, send me your email in the comments section and I will get it out to you this week, or you can find Stacey’s card on Pinterest.  Meanwhile,  “Have a Smurfy Day!”

“Home With You”

Today’s card was made for Operation Write Home (OWH).  When making cards that are going to be handled a lot (shippers, packers, organizers, overseas mail), it is important to make cards that will stand up to the rigors.  If you are interested in making cards for our soldiers to mail to their own families, you want the card you make to arrive safely to the intended recipient.  When I make cards for OWH I try to limit the “bumpy” embellishments, such as large buttons, heavy ribbon and decorative brads/jewels.  I use products that can be safely “smashed” in the postal machines, without tearing the envelope.  To keep cards from sticking to each other, I do not use glue dots.  I use liquid glue and “Stampin’Dimensionals.”  I use texture folders and creases to get the desired “raised” effect.  Before you make cards to mail, go to the mail room link at OWH.  If you lack inspiration, The OWH link has dozens of sketches for you to translate into your own style.

All of the products listed are available 24/7 from my online Stampin’ Up! store, unless otherwise indicated.
