This week’s midweek throw-down is cards for kids. I just happened to be making these little ladybugs yesterday, so I was happy when I saw this challenge.
All of the cards shown are using a version of my favorite OWH sketch #29, with a tweak here and there based on the size of the focal point I am working with.
First Sketch #29:
OWH Sketch #29
#1 Kids’ Card “Ladybug Hug”
I tweaked the focal piece on this card to 2.5″X 3″ to fit the image better. The image/sentiment is from Stamps of Life “Ladybugs 2 Love.” The paper is from my SU stash. I love this image for paper piecing.
Melon Mambo Ladybug Hug
Card #2 – Birthday Basics Candle Card
I tweaked the sketch by moving the focal piece a little closer to the left to show off the candle paper better. The DSP is “Birthday Basics,” from SU. The card stock is “Bermuda Bay (SU).”

Card #3 – Missing You Owl
You have seen a version of this card before, with two owls and a heart in the moon. The paper is from Papertry Ink, ” Summer Camp.”

Playing catch-up and posting two weeks of sketches at the same time, plus another easy-to-do card, I made 6 of, for the box.

Basic Layout Hero Card
This weeks sketch is great for using up those pieces of designer series paper that stand pretty much on their own. The addition of a little accent, and possibly embossing makes them just perfect.
The recipe for this card appears below.
OWH Sketch #207

Starting the new year with an interesting sketch as well as a “Stripe” challenge from Our Daily Bread. For every 50 cards submitted for the ODB challenge, ODB will pay for the shipping of two large boxes of cards overseas. What a great incentive to submit a card!
This weeks’ Operation Write Home sketch is #206. I combined the two to make this masculine card. The recipe appears below:

The DSP is an old nautical theme from my stash.
The card is embellished with Linen Thread.
It has been a while since I have posted anything, so I saw this “Best of 2013 Blog Hop” as an opportunity to get back in the groove for 2014. I searched through my photo library and found the cards I enjoyed making the most. The most challenging cards are always the punch art. I search for ideas of what I want to do on other sites, and then make the creature my own. While punch art is my favorite style of card crafting, it is very time consuming to put the characters together. The wrong punch selection, or the different placement of the facial features, entirely change the look. I struggle, place and punch the elements until the focal point makes me smile. Needless to say, I throw a lot of stuff away before I am satisfied with the finished product.
My absolute favorite cards, are the “love” owls. I intend to make many more of these in 2014. Thanks for stopping by.
