Challenge Week March 24, 2013

Standard

I finally got a little smarter and decided to wait after the Mid Week Challenge to do my posts for the week.  It was “hard.”  I am always so anxious to share my weekly sketch card.

This week I got a box of 55 done, in the mail, on their way to make some smiles.

Challenge #1 – Weekly Sketch Challenge – OWH Sketch #165

Recipe:  DSP from stash, Whisper White and Cherry Cobbler CS; Well Scripted (retired SU) stamp set, Cherry Cobbler Ink, SU embossing folders, SU lace edge punch, SU dotted Cherry Cobbler ribbon, and Marvy Brand edge punch system (heart lace).  Since the card is very “Valentiny,” I will save it as an example for my Valentine cards, which will be here before I know it (on OWH Schedule).

Challenge #2 – Mid Week Throwdown

The MWT this week was to use stripes on our cards.  I just love this diagonal striped DS from SU from the Sycamore Street Collection.  Card Stocks used were Tangerine Tango, Night of Navy and Whisper White.  The sentiment is from Vintage Verses stamp set stamped with Night of Navy ink.  The heart were punched using a small star SU punch.  The ribbon “bomb” was from my stash.  All products used are SU.

This card was made with left over flowers from the previous project.

That is all for this week.  Time to clean up the craft room to make a couple of Easter goodie bags for the G-kids.

Challenge Week March 17, 2013

Standard

I love waking up on Sunday Mornings to the Sunday Paper, and the Sketch Challenge.  As soon as I saw Sketch #164, I imagined it holding a large sentiment.  I had just received a great Thank You sentiment stamp from Stamper’s Best and thought it just perfect.  I recall a while back, Heroes asking for red/white/blue thank you cards they could send a note of thanks for care packages, etc… on.  I think this card is striking and simple at the same time.  I have to admit I cheated a bit, but achieved the same look by cutting one strip of red 5.5 x 1.5″ instead of two 1.5 x 2″ pieces.

Challenge #1 – Sketch Challenge – OWH Sketch #164

All of the paper is from SU, Nearly Navy, Cherry Cobbler and Whisper White card stock.  The DSP is from my stash, something I got off of the Clearance Rack a while back.  The stamp is from Stamper’s Best.  It is called “International Thank You.”  The Star embossing folder was from Cuttlebug.

Challenge #2 – Mid Week Throw Down “Ombr’e Card”

As I learned this week, an Ombr’e Card is a card that uses the same color graduating from light to dark.  For mine, I used a series of light yellow to oranges.  The idea for this card came from Jen Arkfeld “Flowers in a Jar” shown as the Inspiration piece.  I wanted to try and duplicate it, but didn’t have the same flower stamp.  The recipe for my version appears below the card.

Recipe for my card:  DSP; Attic Boutique and Polka Dot Parade/Ink and Card Stock Colors; Pumpkin Pie, More Mustard, Daffodil Delight, So Saffron, Whisper White, StazonOn Black/Stamp Sets; Flower Fest and Perfectly Preserved/Ribbon; Daffodil Delight Ribbon Seam Binding (wadded up then tied), Embellishment; White Tea Lace paper doily.  All supplies used were Stampin’ Up.

The Rest of the Box

I am working on Father’s Day Cards.  This first card was made with my newest stamps from Stamper’s Best as well as a couple of stamps from Stampin’ Up!

Stamp Sets:  John Rooster Wayne – Stampers Best Hollywood Icon Series; My Hero Sentiments Set-Stampers Best Operation Write Home Series; Family Reunion-SU (retired), Clockworks-SU

Paper:  Soft Suede and Crumb Cake – SU, Well Worn DSP – Currently available on the the SU Clearance Rack.  The Well Worn Suite is so perfect for masculine cards.

Inks:  Soft Suede and Crumb Cake,  Embellishments: Linen Thread, Texture: Argyle Embossing folder-SU

Challenge Week March 3, 2013

Standard

Yes, I am a week behind, posting the first week of March first.  I took a week off to deal with those bothersome personal things!  Back to what I love.

The first challenge of the week is a two-fer.  I combined the Sketch Challenge with the Our Daily Bread Monthly Challenge.  The ODB challenge was to use scallops.  This card is a total case from Sherry H.  I loved her soft combination of patterns and worked to duplicate it on my own card.

Challenge #1 and #2 – Weekly OWH Sketch and Our Daily Bread

Recipe:  ODB – Use scallops on your card; OWH Sketch #162 (flipped),  Attic Boutique DSP, Sahara Sand and Pool Party CS, Sahara Sand Ink, Well Scripted stamp set, Basic Jewels pearls, lace edge punch, Manhattan Flower embossing folder, velvet designer ribbon, corner punch.  All products used were SU.

Challenge #3 – Mid-week Throw Down

This week’s throw down card is another “recipe card.”  Instead of being given the exact ingredients, we were allowed to choose a combination of ingredients from a Tic Tac Toe graph.  I chose the right side of the graph, using ribbon, blue and embossing.  I tweaked it a little after I realized the ribbon didn’t look very good, and used twine instead of ribbon.

I have been trying to use “new” (read stuff I have accumulated over the last few years and haven’t even opened yet), stuff this year, instead of going back to the same sets over and over again.  I have wanted to use this stamp set for quite awhile.  It is from SU and called “The Open Sea.”  All of the products used for this card are from SU.

Challenge Week March 10, 2013

Standard

Where does time go?  I missed a challenge week!  Instead of trying to play catch up, I decided to start with the first challenge of the week of March 10, and work my way backwards to the previous week.

Challenge #1 – Sketch Challenge

Recipe:  Sketch #163, “Delightful Decorations” Stamp Set, “Be of Good Cheer” DSP, Whisper White and Cherry Cobbler Card Stock, “Snow Burst” Textured Impressions folder, Ornament Punch, Garden Green and Cherry Cobbler Ink, Basic Rhinestone Jewels.  All supplies with the exception of the silver ribbon are from Stampin’ Up!

As you can see I flipped the design, and added a little backing to my focal piece.  I like a tighter edge on my cards, so instead of a 1/4″ edge, I have a 1/8th” edge.  These cards will be this months Christmas cards for my “Five Christmas Cards Per Month,” challenge.  By the time July comes around, I’ll have a great head start on the holiday greeting cards.

Challenge #2-Mid Week Throw Down

The MWT card was a color challenge this week.  The challenge, to use blue and green on the card, and if you wanted a little more to the challenge, use orange and a neutral.  So, I wanted a little more.  This card has a lot going on, but the recipe is easy to follow.

Card Stock:  Sahara Sand, Marina Mist, Bashful Blue, Pumpkin Pie, Basic Black (All SU).  DSP: Playtime (from my stash).  Stamp Sets: PS I love You and Papillon Potpourri (Both SU).  Brick Embossing Folder (Tim Holtz), Sizzix Scallop Tags Combo #2, Big Shot Bigz Lattice die (SU), “Little Leaves,” Sizzlet Die (SU), 1.25″ Scallop Circle (SU), and Itty Bitty Bits punch (SU), “Subtles” brad (SU).

To give the card a little vintage flair, “dust the edges” of the neutral pieces with an ink dauber.

The Rest of the Box

These fun Birthday Cards are either both girly, or the green are a little more boyish.  In any case, they are fun.The measurements are as follows:  Black background 5.25 x 4,” DSP 5×3.75″ cut diagonally (the rest of the piece is on the inside front of the card).  Focal Poing: White 2.75 x 3.5,” Black (green or pink),  3×3.75,” Color 3.25×4.”

Stamp Set:  Brand new from SU, a single stamp “Woo Hoo,” stamped in StazOn black and colored with Crayola “Twistables” pencils.  I used SU Basic Black, Whisper White, Old Olive and Pink Pirouette Card Stock.  The DSP is from a LSS, called Birthday Green or Birthday Pink by DCWV.  The ribbons used are from SU, Pink Pirouette and Certainly Celery.
